If you've got a penchant for almost-forgotten pop singers of the early noughties, you'll probably already know what we're talking about. Heck, you might have even signed the change.org petition from two years ago that started the whole shebang. Confused? Don't be. After two years and over 26,000 signatures, it's just been confirmed that M.A.C's next collaboration will be with the late R&B singer Aaliyah, who tragically died in a Bahamas plane crash in 2001, aged just 22.

M.A.C’s upcoming collab resurrects which late R&B singer?

Because Aaliyah's life was cut short while on the cusp of superstardom, the talented singer/actress's legacy has burned bright over the years thanks to the internet, and the campaigning of the M.A.C collection comes with the tick of approval from Aaliyah's brother Rashad Haughton. While the collection seems kind of random, apparently Aaliyah was a huge fan of M.A.C make-up. According to the petition, her favourite products included "Chelsea Lipstick, Cherish Lipstick, Chestnut Lipliner, Espresso eyeshadow and Biscuit eyeshadow." Here's hoping the collection makes a point to hero these products.

The move, announced this morning on M.A.C's Instagram page, follows this week's announcement of a Nicki Minaj lipstick range and last year's similarly fan-initiated Selena Quintanilla collection.  No news yet on what the collection will look like, but it's expected to drop sometime in 2018. Is it too early to predict a resurgence of early noughties beauty throwbacks, like brown lippie and ultra-glossy lips? We don't think so... watch this space.
