Spray fresh: this month’s best new scents for men
Smells like spring
It's that time of the year when men around Australia are lulled into the five-day stupour that is test cricket, we rediscover the beauty of the mojito and guys suddenly have a bunch of new fragrances to choose from. These are the ones we're digging on right now.
1. Molton Brown Tobacco Absolue EDT, $89 (50mL), moltonbrown.com
Tom Ford was one of the first to seize on the earthy depth of tobacco as a scent note and Molton Brown's version packs similar punch. When we say tobacco, we mean freshly harvested/tobacconist rather than stale cigarettes. There are touches of balsams and musks here but grapefruit brings a lightness that makes it perfect for summer.

2. Cristiano Ronaldo Legacy EDT, $89 (100mL), priceline.com.au
It was only a matter of time before other footballing superstars caught on to the David Beckham scent model and this effort from the Portuguese wizard kicks plenty of goals with a combination of lavender, apple and cinnamon. A little sweet to start but settles into a winner.
3. Dolce & Gabbana The One EDP, $94 (50mL), myer.com.au
With a more intense fragrance than The One EDT, this is one of the better value offerings on the market right now. Prepare for a rich blend of ginger, cardamom, basil, amber and cedarwood.

4. Ermenegildo Zegna Mediterranean Neroli, EDT $250 (125mL), shop.davidjones.com.au
The latest in the Essenze Collection which showcases just one prime ingredient, this scent is light, zingy and citrus-laced. Aside from looking striking in any bathroom, there is a laidback, old-school charm on offer here.
5. Penhaligon's Blasted Heath EDP, $279 (100mL), agencedeparfum.com.au
While "blasted heath" might sound like something your grandpa might say while trying not to swear it is in fact a striking tribute to the Scottish Highlands and an instant classic with notes of seaweed, seawater, whisky and timbers. There is also a female equivalent called Blasted Bloom.
6. Amouage Sunshine EDP, $526 (100mL), agencedeparfum.com.au
Yes, you read that price correctly but this concoction is nothing short of summer in a bottle. With notes like orange brandy and juniper berry, this is clearly avoiding the clichés and will set you apart from the pack.
