Hey guys, it's time to come out of hibernation now
So now's the time to start with a bit of prep to ensure your skin has its best season yet.
Raise a glass
The most potent skin treatment available comes out of the tap. Fact. The more you drink, the more toxins are flushed from your system, the better your kidneys work and the better your skin will look. Avoid those environmentally suss plastic bottles and invest in something that's both more responsible and stylish. We like the Waterbobble range of jugs and bottles, from $13, waterbobble.com.au. Keep one on your desk and swap one coffee a day for one bottle of water. You'll start to see the difference within a week.
Get on the pills
By which we mean a supplement like Blackmores Nail, Hair and Skin, $21.49 for 60 tablets, blackmores.com.au. The vitamin C is an antioxidant which revives lacklustre skin and the silica is linked to the production of collagen, the connective fibre that keeps the complexion taught.
Cleanse the lens
Just because you've splashed water on your face doesn't mean you've actually got rid of the dirt or sweat - hello summer - that can cause outbreaks. What you need is a cleanser and the good news is that they're very affordable. At the moment, we're digging on the Bro-To Properly Clean Cleanser, $31, gotoskincare.com. Apply to damp skin, wash away, done.
What a scrubber
Sometimes - and we mean once or twice a week max (ideally before shaving) - you need a deeper level of clean. Especially with the increased humidity that comes with this neck of the calendar and times two if you happen to work out. Tom Ford For Men Exfoliating Energy Scrub, $75, davidjones.com.au, will get down and clean without stripping the skin.
A good moisturiser will prevent your skin from drying out or looking oily. A better one will also offer some sun protection. One of the better two-in-ones on the market is the Klim by Michael Klim Hydrate, $19.95, milkandco.com.au. It offers SPF15 sun care as well as skin-brightening green and brown ocean algae. Apply once in the morning before heading to work or two to three times if you're spending the day at the beach.
Tan your hide
We know you're not still taking skin cancer risks. Right? But there's something to be said about the bronzed glow. Tru dat. Make like your ex girlfriend and fake it with Ella Bache Great Facetan Without Sun, $38, ellabache.com.au. It looks natural, deepens gradually and doesn't have that smell so many others in the category do. Use no more than twice a week though and for God's sake, wash your hands afterwards. You've been warned.
The final touch
Before you hit the hay, be sure to cleanse or scrub away the day and if you remember chug a glass of water. You may also want to bring a serum into play to help your skin recover as you snooze. If the mere word "serum" is causing your wallet to clamp shut, consider the Gentleman's Brand Co. Face Serum, $32, mensbiz.com.au, which helps the skin's natural regeneration process without requiring a second mortgage.
