Life gets busy, you know? And there's no way we're prepared to admit how (in)frequently we actually get around to this pesky little beauty chore. But in the interests of good hygiene and the whole New Year, New You philosophy, we asked the maker of make-up brushes herself, Zoeva's Zoe Boikou, to spur us into action. Here's what she had to say.
How often should you wash your make-up brushes?
It depends on how often you use them and which products you use them with. Generally, brushes used with liquid products should be cleaned more often than products used in combination with powder products. To be on the safe side, I'd recommend cleaning them every 10 days, if used on a daily basis.
What's the best way to do it?
The quickest way is to either use a mild shampoo or professional brush cleaner: rub the brush in a circular motion against your hand, rinse it well and add a drop of conditioner to the hair. Rinse again, reshape the brush and let it dry upside down on a paper towel to avoid any water remaining in the ferrule. In short, treat it like your own hair.
How often should you replace your brushes?
Make-up brushes of high quality should last you several years, especially if taken care of properly.
