2016 was the year Hailey Baldwin officially made it'. But being the daughter of actor Stephen Baldwin and niece to Alec Baldwin, Hailey is no stranger to the limelight. She's also a solidified member of the It-girl model gang, which includes famous pals Gigi Hadid, Kendall Jenner, and Bella Hadid - who as a collective, completely dominated the fashion landscape (and social media) of 2016. And most of us can't help recall when the bombshell was plastered all over the tabloids with then-boyfriend Justin Bieber - a brief romance that irrefutably saw her celebrity stocks skyrocket.
But come 2016, this was Hailey's year, as the New York-native officially established herself as a prominent model and businesswomen in the industry. Because if you look around, the girl is everywhere. Baldwin featured in major campaigns for Tommy Hilfiger and H&M, collaborated with Australian leathergoods brand The Daily Edited, and walked in international runways for fashion designers, such as Dolce & Gabbana, Tommy Hilfiger, Julien Macdonald and Tory Burch. And to finish the year off , Hailey has released a 19-piece make-up line for Australian brand ModelCo (with its pre-sale selling out in a matter of hours).
I sat down with Hailey when she was in Sydney recently to talk beauty and here's how it all went down:
When ModelCo approached you for this collection came up what was your immediate reaction?
I was excited! It sounded like a good idea and I thought it was something that made sense in my career.
What do you think of Aussie beauty?
Beach-y culture in Australia is something that I really like. I love the aesthetic; my favourite time of the year, beauty-wise, is summer, with tanned skin, fresh out of the ocean salt-dried hair, and no need to for make-up - which is super Aussie.
You've already achieved so much in your career at just 20! What has helped you to get to where you are today?
I've definitely been told some really good stuff from my dad and my uncle, I think if I didn't have my family around me I'm not sure I would be able to do this without them.
What's something people have a misconception about you?
People have a misconception about my personality... I just don't think people have really seen it come through very much because I don't like to put it out there on display. I mean, I [show] it in spurts on Snapchat and in videos or whatever, but I'm not on any type of reality show where it's like constantly been seen. So I think people have a very big misconception about my life and how grounded I am, how I was raised and the type of person I am.

You're best friends with the Hadid sisters and the Jenners, do you guys ever share beauty advice?
I'm the one among all my friends where they will come to me for like, "What should I use on my skin?" and "What vitamins should I take?"! I'm very hands on and really good about vitamins and medical stuff things like that - weirdly. Like for instance, if someone sprains an ankle I can tape it up cause I use to be a ballerina so I know all these weird tricks and hacks.
Speaking of, what's your weirdest alternative beauty hack you use frequently?
Castor oil - I religiously put it on the eyelashes and eyebrows.
What! Really? What does it do?
It just makes them soo much thicker and allows them to grow... trust me!
Do you mainly focus on your skin, hair or body?
I'm extremely cautious of skin - but I actually have to be pedantic with everything because it's my job.
Your skin always looks so flawless! How do you keep it like that when you're constantly putting on and taking off make-up for shoots/shows?
It sounds so cliché, but I drink loads of water. When I was growing up my mum would always nag me constantly to drink water and now it is just normal! I also take lots of vitamins which I think helps.
What is your daily fix?
I take time every day to do a bible devotional.
What is your all-time favourite meal?
The stuff my mum and grandma cook like home cooked meals that I couldn't get except from at home
Do you have a go-to outfit?
All black! Black jeans, black boots, black tee.
You obviously travel a lot for work, what is your favourite restaurant in the world?
Depends on what type of food but I do love sushi, so I would have to say Nobu in Malibu.
Who has always been your idol?
In terms of beauty, I really admire Rosie Huntington-Whitely. I think she is flawless.
So what is next for Hailey?
I don't know! I'm not necessarily a future planner just because I literally never know what I'm going to do like month to month or even technically week to week... I mean I know what I want in the future I want a family and that whole thing... But I don't think it's anything coming anytime soon.
