No matter how hard you scour Instagram for a snap of Lexi Boling pouting and posing with the puppy dog filter, you're not going to find it - unlike most models of her generation, this girl is more grunge than Photoshopped gorgeousness. The cool girl antidote to the preening and polished Insta-models - think Kendall, Karlie and co - Boling has the world 'bad' tattooed along her ribcage and her Instagram bio reads simply - and tellingly - 'Trouble.'
Boling mixes with the cool girl crowd - Binx Walton, Anna Ewers and Hanne Gaby Odiele are her people (we'd say 'squad' but we have a feeling that would elicit an eye roll from all of them) - and regularly hangs with Alexander Wang. Like Kate Moss before her, Boling's bad girl attitude, mixed, of-course, with undeniable beauty, is a magnet for the high fashion houses: she's walked for Prada, Chanel, Versace, Dior and Givenchy, to name a few, plus has appeared in campaigns for Alexander Wang, Coach, Etro, Moschino and Prada.
The new Prada Candy Kiss is Boling's first ever fragrance campaign, and it's set to cement her as one of the industry's most in-demand faces. Styled as a '60s chanteuse with a raw, modern edge, Boling brings a confidence to the campaign that makes it clear she's not to be messed with. Read what she has to say about fashion, fragrance and her refreshingly lo-fi approach to beauty below.
How did it feel when you were asked to be the face of Prada Candy Kiss?
It feels amazing to be embodying the Candy character, it's quite powerful actually because she is playful and wild but super sweet and beautiful and has an innocence to her that you wouldn't guess that she has this wild side and gets what she wants, which I like.
What do you love about the campaign?
I love how fresh it looks and it's Prada! For me it represents the natural and innocent beauty of the 1960s juxtaposed with a bold and modern attitude.
What do you look for in a fragrance?
Something that will last all day is great in a fragrance but also something light and fresh, a classic pop fragrance.
What trends are you into this season?
I love black and dressing like a boy. That never changes with the seasons. I like playing with genders as Prada would do in their fashion shows.
Who are your favourite designers or brands?
Prada, Rick Owens, Raf Simons.
Do you have any style rules that you abide by?
I try and keep the retro look going. A smokey eye that's natural but not too crazy is my favourite.
Whose personal style do you admire?
Kurt Cobain for sure!
What's different about this fragrance? What kind of girl do you see wearing it?
I think it has a lot of different smells, well highlighted with the presence of musk, and a lot of people can pick up something different because there's something in the fragrance that's addictive!
What are the best beauty tips you've picked up backstage?
My top beauty tip is being natural. I think our bodies are made to do their thing and other than water and Evian water spray I don't use much.
What's in your make-up bag?
Nerium day and night cream, Olaplex for my hair and Evian water spray for those dry moments.
