"I love hair, I breathe hair, I dream about hair!"
The Paris-based Australian hairdresser to the likes of Marion Cotillard, Cate Blanchett, Chloe Sevigny, cover models and luxury fashion campaigns introduces her own hair line - Iles Formula - and reveals how to achieve your most alluring locks yet, even if they're at literal breaking point.
What is your hair care philosophy?
Hair care is what I'm about - I'm obsessed with healthy hair. I think this is one of the reasons I do so much celebrity work. Good news travels fast in those circles and I believe it's like a breath of fresh air when someone comes and repairs your hair, at the same time as giving a great 'do.
What has been your most surreal moment professionally?
Winning my Oscar for Hollywood Hairdresser of the Year last year. Iles Formula has just now been nominated by the Hollywood Beauty Awards as most innovative new beauty product for 2016.
Who was your favourite celebrity to work with and why?
I love working with them all but I do, especially at this time of year, work a lot with Heidi Klum. I will spend three months in Los Angeles with her. So she is super special, I respect her greatly. She is a kind and generous woman and hands-on mum to her four children.
I recently worked with Sharon Stone who is super smart and involved in many good causes.
As you travel so much, what's your antidote to deflated plane hair?
I place some of my Iles Formula Finishing Serum and tie my hair up in a high chignon. On arrival I have voluptuous hair once it has dropped down - works every time.
As you live in Paris, what do you find is the biggest different between the way French and Australian girls wear their hair?
French hair is quite famous. There are two groups: those older women that usually have a short or medium bob of some kind - sharp and chic. Then there are those long hair wearers where hair looks slept on. But don't be fooled. Within that look is a great cut and expensive colour.
I think Australian girls think similar about their hair (maybe not the bobs) and certainly have great salon standard from what I noticed.
What is your best hairstyling tip for the Australian summer?
My Iles Formula Finishing Serum is made for Australian sunshine. Use it on wet and dry hair everyday to protect your hair from heated tools, UV, colour fade and humidity. It will make your hair feel luscious.
